You know, I'm not entirely sure, [ he admits, with a little frown. ] Normally I'd assume the latter because of this century, but the imPort who offered me the job was definitely a man out of time.

[ He wore a tunic, for fuck's sake. ]

[He lets out a small chuckle of endearment before kissing Dorian on the cheek.]

Oh, Dorian. You didn't ask for any more details than that? I mean, how far out of time is he, anyway? [Because that makes all the difference between the former being strip clubs while the latter being... well, clubs for men to be men.]

He mentioned this to me while I was at work! [ Dorian responded, with a small laugh. ] And even I know it's a faux pas to talk about a new job while you're currently at your possibly former job.

[ As for the question... ] Well, he did wear a tunic. Possibly somewhere Middle Ages to early Tudor? Certainly nothing post Stuart period.

Oh! [Toby nods at Dorian's response.] I got it. All makes sense now.

[Though he pauses, thinking.] Huh. Is he one of the newer imPorts, was he assigned to work there, or does he quite suddenly and randomly own the place? Wait, you don't have to answer. Thinking aloud, is all. Still... He called it a "gentleman's club"?

[Like, those exact words? They weren't... quite that, not before the 18th century.]

He did, [ Dorian muses, with a frown, as the coffee maker burbles in the background. Because yeah, Toby's right. This is odd. ]

He's definitely one of the newer ones, as I haven't seen him around lately. One thing can be said for the man, he's adapting at rapid speed if he's already scouting out hires.

[Well, now that Toby has pointed those things out to Dorian, he wonders if that makes Dorian any more or less intrigued in that particular fellow imPort.]

Mm-hmm, so. What's his name, anyway? You're sure the job he's offering is actually available? [Because more than anything, he's curious as to what sort of gentleman's club Dorian's referring to. Not because he is or will be jealous... Though, all right. Yeah, Toby can be possessive, but he wants to know if he'll need a membership or something to visit Dorian at work.]

Petyr Baelish. The club won't be open until early May and I'm certainly not going to quit until I've got the paperwork officially signed, but I couldn't find any reason why he'd offer me a job that wasn't available.

[ And hey, no matter what, Dorian would swing that membership for Toby period so he could actually visit. As for the question... ]

I plan on doing a little bit of network stalking and asking around to find out more about the man.

[Petyr Baelish. Sounds like a rather clever man if he's catching up with the times so quickly. Thankfully, what Dorian says is like music to Toby's ears, and he chuckles.] I expected no less. Snoop away, dear.

[Finally, he pours himself some whiskey. The whole rest of the time, he'd been waffling about as they talked.] As for the job, I... don't think I'll really mind so long as we get the details.

[He thinks he'll feel so much better knowing what sort of place Dorian's signing up to work at. Which, he thinks, Dorian might not have put thought into. But that's just like him, isn't it?]

[Though Toby is a little surprised by Edgeworth's interest in the werewolf bond, he doesn't hesitate to speak about it.]

He admit to killing me, yeah? When I came back from that, he and I had a bond, the sort that he would normally share with another member of his pack. It was a sort of empathy where we might know each other's feelings through our senses. Negativity could manifest in a disgusting taste in one's mouth or perhaps the sound of a migraine-inducing screaming in one's mind.

[He recalls those times with slight annoyance.]

It was especially terrible at first because he was so angry with me. I felt drunk and incapable of functioning properly, and the pain... it was almost crippling at times.

[ The coffee maker makes whatever sort of noise it makes to tell Dorian that the coffee's ready Grabbing some sort of tacky mug from the cabinet, Dorian starts to pour himself a drink. ]

We're definitely getting the details—I'm not going to agree to anything until after I tour the location itself. [ Dorian is too vain to work in a shithole. ] I simply wanted to gauge your interest.

Then consider me very interested.

[After all, he asks all the good questions! Anyway, he smiles before taking a sip of his drink, savouring it, and swallowing. Then, he makes a satisfied sound.]

Why, did you want me to work there, too? [He teases.]

Truth be told, I was mostly asking because it'd be a good thing to do, [ Dorian admits, taking a sip of the coffee. They're engaged, they're going to be married, you keep people informed! That's just what you do.

And then, because it'd be good to ask, ] Do you want to? Work there, that is.

[Which, in retrospect, explains a great deal of Toby's behavior during their last meeting. Would it be in poor taste to shove their drinks aside and bang his head against the table? Edgeworth decides that yes, it would be, and he settles for a subdued groan]

He, of all people, had no right to be angry with anyone. It was his own damn fault for-

[Edgeworth shuts his mouth and goes for his drink, taking a sip to cool his temper. This isn't a conversation he wants to get into and he knows it]

...nevermind. It's gone completely now, correct?

[Oh, Toby looks so pleased about Dorian approaching him like this to talk about the new employment opportunity without simply jumping into the venture. That's just... so much more thoughtful than usual. It's something that makes him even more smitten with Dorian Gray.]

Perhaps. I am curious what sort of establishment it is, what positions are available, what benefits may come of it, and so on. [A beat.] I'd like to see the premises as well; do you think it's too much visiting it along with you?

[Before Edgeworth abandons his remark, Toby shoots him a look—raised eyebrows, wrinkled forehead, and a pointed glare asking whether the other man really wants to go there. But when Edgeworth instead clamps down and takes a drink, Toby is satisfied enough to drop his gaze and return to nursing his own glass.

With a sigh,] Yeah. Totally gone, so far as I know, ever since a few days after my release.

[Momentarily, he considers asking whether that changes anything but ultimately decides against it. Because it's not worth opening that can of worms.

Instead:] So, what's the verdict?

The verdict?

[Edgeworth looks back at Toby for a moment, before turning his attention back to his drink]

Regarding your nature, you mean?

[Edgeworth doesn't mean his status as a vampire, though it would be easy to misread it that way. He means his status as a person.]

In general, Edgeworth.

[This man wordlessly ended their friendship. When Toby confronted him, Edgeworth guilt tripped him into turning himself in. What does Edgeworth want, what does he expect to see, and what's going to happen next?]

What sort of person am I? Does my nature have anything to do with it?

It's not too much in the slightest, [ Dorian responds, with a shake of his head. He just can't help but match Toby's pleased smile with one of his own. That's just so reassuring. ] It only makes sense to have your fiancee's input before making any large decisions!

I'll give Baelish a call sometime tomorrow and see what time would be best for him.

Thank you. I look forward to it... [Here, he gazes deep into Dorian's eyes.] I love you, Dorian Gray.

[And now they can wordlessly stare deep into each other's eyes. That is, unless...]

Speaking of which, do you have work tonight? Want me to work tonight? [Or maybe he can just work on Dorian instead...]

[There's another pause. Another moment of silence. Another brief period of time where Edgeworth refuses to meet Toby's gaze.]

How are you feeding nowadays?

[Edgeworth glances back to him, finally, sipping his drink as he watches Toby's face. It's not an answer, not a direct one. But it's a lead-in to one, assuming Toby isn't too infuriated to answer.]

[His tone is very business as usual, and he's as composed as can be, cool as a cucumber.]

Namely I feed on Dorian nowadays, but as I've mentioned, I keep others informed about my nature. Sometimes, people volunteer to donate; I discuss the details with them, and they provide clear and informed consent.

[He raises the glass to his lips before holding it there instead of taking a sip.] But I don't often drink from others.

[Because Dorian would much rather Toby feed from him, really. Though that detail barely warrants mentioning, and so Toby continues enjoying his drink.]

[ There's some of that good ol'wordless staring before Toby asks a question. ]

Oh! Unfortunately, I do, but I don't have to go in for another five hours or so. I'm sure we can find something to do to pass that time.

[ Whether it's just plain ol'sex or Dorian bothering Toby while he works, it's up in the air. ]

At least five hours. [Toby sips his drink.] That's plenty of time before work.

[He lifts a hand to caress Dorian's face and brushes his thumb over his lover's lips.]

How about... we finish our drinks, and then fool around for a bit?

[ One hand's still holding his coffee, but with his other hand, Dorian wraps it around Toby's waist and pulls him in closer. ]

Fooling around sounds like wonderful way to pass the time. And honestly? I'm certain it will wake me up faster than the caffeine.

[As Dorian slips his hand around Toby's waist, a smile plays across his lips. He sets his glass down on the table and slides along as Dorian tugs him. Caressing Dorian's face, Toby brushes the backs of his fingers on Dorian's cheeks before trailing them to just below his ear. Letting out a pleased little laugh, Toby leans his head against Dorian's before pressing a soft kiss just at the corner of his mouth.

In a low, sultry voice,] Certainly has a way of getting the blood flowing.
