Tobias may one day learn to change the greeting on his voicemail. Until then, there's only the default.

And it was something you planned. All I knew is that we were going out.

Dorian Gray: predictable. The man who never changes and yet never stays quite the same.
Quite the paradox.
Anyway, so it was something I'd planned. All right.
Well, nothing I can quite do about that now, so I'll just have to think bigger and better than my future self!
Should be something exciting and perhaps involve some degree of risk, I think.

And this trip sounds wonderful already. I LOVE a degree of risk.

Hardly the sort of man who does things in moderation.
It's not like there's really a halfway with you.
And I know you do. How have you not taken on "The Gambler" as a proper superhero or supervillain nickname?
no subject
Yes, I rarely do things in moderation, but I'd rather be remembered as cunning wordplay over sheer volume.
And as for the Gambler, I already took on a supervillain name! There was a brief period last summer when I was a costumed criminal. I took on the name Faust.

But perhaps only to those who know you well enough.
You're always hiding in plain sight.
Last summer, you say—before, or after my arrival?
This isn't the same as that caper with The Shade, was it?
no subject
But no, it's not the same as that caper with Shade. That time it was straight illegal. This time, I managed to work it so that even if they turned me in, I'd be able to swing a better sentence.
The perks of operating against an illegal vigilante group.

What was the 'better' sentence you got?
How on earth had I not noticed?

It's strange to be in a world where one might not even serve jail time for murder.
Strange and beneficial, that is.
Anyway, that whole bit where you were staying home and trying to be a good boy suddenly makes complete sense.
I doubt you would have been otherwise.
no subject
But you're right: I wouldn't have been a good boy unless provoked.
no subject
Given the choice between a slap on the wrist and jail time, of course you'd choose the former.
And maybe you were all right the first week and a half before you decided to test the limits of your probation.
Am I right?
