But hyperbole's more obnoxiously excessive.
Yes, I rarely do things in moderation, but I'd rather be remembered as cunning wordplay over sheer volume.
And as for the Gambler, I already took on a supervillain name! There was a brief period last summer when I was a costumed criminal. I took on the name Faust.

I think partly before, partly after. You were dealing with that bitch Maryam at the time.
But no, it's not the same as that caper with Shade. That time it was straight illegal. This time, I managed to work it so that even if they turned me in, I'd be able to swing a better sentence.
The perks of operating against an illegal vigilante group.

I see. So it was an ongoing thing around the time I'd arrived.
What was the 'better' sentence you got?
How on earth had I not noticed?

Well I was in JAIL jail for robbing a bank, long before you showed up. My supervillain activities against Archangel never got me arrested, though I did incur the wrath of a handful of imPorts. I was on probation around the first time you showed up because, under the influence of the devil, I murdered a girl.

Wow, probation for murder. That really IS a light sentence.
It's strange to be in a world where one might not even serve jail time for murder.
Strange and beneficial, that is.
Anyway, that whole bit where you were staying home and trying to be a good boy suddenly makes complete sense.
I doubt you would have been otherwise.

I can't help it! The jail was blown up, they couldn't put me there.
But you're right: I wouldn't have been a good boy unless provoked.

It sounds more like you were intimidated rather than provoked into being a good boy.
Given the choice between a slap on the wrist and jail time, of course you'd choose the former.
And maybe you were all right the first week and a half before you decided to test the limits of your probation.
Am I right?

You're too generous: I was testing the limits within a week.
